Epernay to Epernay: October 1st

Transfers between Paris and the Barge.

 PARIS to EPERNAY

Our cruise starts  through  the centre of  Paris, under the famous and spectacular bridges of the city,  past the Eiffel  Tower,  the Hôtel  des Invalides, the Tuileries and Nôtre Dame Cathedral. Clearing Paris through a series of tunnels and canal cuttings we reach the city of Meaux, centre of the Brie region, offering us a chance to taste and perhaps buy some of the famed Brie cheese. We also tour its famous cathedral and bishop's  palace gardens. Cruising upstream through the pastoral landscape of the Brie we stop at La Ferté-sous-Jouarre before reaching Château-Thierry, where, on the narrow winding street up to the castle we visit the home of La Fontaine, now a museum dedicated to his life and works. The next section of the cruise takes us through some of the finest landscapes of the Champagne region. The valley opens out to show us hills covered with vines as we pass numerous small champagne villages nestling beside the river. Continuing to Dormans, where we visit the impressive Chapel of Remembrace, we then reach Epernay Epernay, where we finish our cruise, is the home of many of the large champagne houses and it is here where we visit the caves of Castellane and enjoy our champagne tasting before the final dinner aboard Merganser
